Jerry Sanders has been quite the optimist about what the city
will be able to do in coming years. It will build a new Convention
Center (perhaps the most expensive facility it has ever built).

of Man gets Smithsonian affiliation

The San
Diego Museum of Man in Balboa Park has become an affiliate of the
Smithsonian Institution, something only 164 institutions nationwide
can claim. Only one other Balboa Park museum, the Air & Space
Museum, is also an affiliate of the storied Washington, D.C., based
